Air Jordan

“Its gotta be the shoes” commercial from 1989 made me fall in love with the Jordan brand. I watched that commercial with my mom when she was showing me videos of Spike Lee as Mars Blackmon (before I got the nickname) and it made me wanna get all the Jordan gear so I could fly like Mike. Who knew later in high school I would get the nickname Mars and still love the Knicks and where Air Jordan?

My nickname in high school was Mars, like Mars Blackmon from She’s Gotta Have It. There are two reasons why I was called Mars. The first was because I would day dream in class and my teacher would ask me if I was on another planet. The second reason is in the movie Shes Gotta Have It, one of the main characters names is Mars Blackmon. He from Brooklyn, loves the Knicks and wears flashy colors, normally orange and blue. My teacher one night came to my room at the military school to give me my home work when I was sick and he saw my digital picture frame and it had a lot of pictures of me in my Knicks gear and I had the big glasses and my family in from New York. I’m very animated when I talk, I like to think I’m funny as well and I’m obsessed with the Air Jordan Brand so I stuck with the nickname and it seemed to fit.

I have been playing basketball since 4th grade. I was really bad in the 4th grade but then over that summer I went to a bunch of camps and got really good. Then I played middle school basketball and AAU which is travel basketball. Then I moved across town and played at a different high school than my friends. Then in 10th grade I went to military school and played Varsity all three years. Now I play club basketball at UMW.

I like to travel the globe. This past summer I went to London, England. We saw the London Bridge, Big Ben, we went on the London Eye. We took a boat ride on the London River. We went inside Westminister Abbey. We took the train to Paris for a day and ate lunch in the Eiffel Tower and went Luve.  I had a great time as a whole I saw very interesting works of art. I saw the Mona Lisa when i was in the Luve. I saw the Queen’s Guards as well.
